Wales (UK) Synthetic helmet (˜1999)
In this collection since: 28.03.2017
0908 Fire helmet from the UK. Manufacturer is the company Cairns & Brothers from the USA, the helmet model is called CEN550. The helmet type CEN550 is comparable to the helmets of the 660 series. See helmet number 0646, Iran. The helmet was produced on 19.04.1999. The valid norm was the prEN443. The prEN443 is the pre-norm to the European Standard 443. It replaced in Europe the national standards for firefighter helmets. In Germany that was the DIN14940 which existed since 1956. See helmet number 0017, Germany. Here you will find an overview of the DIN14940. In December 1997 DIN 14940 is replaced by EN 443. It was initially called DIN EN 443 before the designation was changed to EN443. From the helmet designation CEN and the EN443 standardization you could deduce that the helmet was built especially for the European market.
At the front is the badge of the West Glamorgan Fire Brigade. West Glamorgan exist since 1974. It was formed from the County Glamorgan and the County Borough Swansea and is located in Wales.
The West Glamorgan Fire Department is now part of the Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service.
On the side of the yellow helmet two black stripes are attached. They stand for the rank of a sub-officer.
