German Reich until 1918 Leather helmet (˜1915)
In this collection since: 12.06.2016
0801 Fire helmet from Germany. The leather helmet shown here, is probably one of the most built leather helmets in Germany. The helmet arose after the first world war. It was derived from the M15, used in the German Army. The army helmet M15 was often converted to a fire helmet. The helmet has a brass comb, the umbrella is enclosed with brass, the side cockades for the attachment of the chin strap are also made of brass. A special feature is the rear blade mount of the neck shield. The helmet was worn between 1915 and 1934. This helmet is a Hessian firefighter helmet. On the front is the badge of the Hessian fire brigades. After 1933, many firefighters took the original badges like Freimaurer symbols or Christian slogans away.
On the right side is the cockade of the German Reich in the colors black and white and red. On the left side is a cockade in the colors white-red-white. This color combination would stand for the state of Bremen. However, the width of the red color is too narrow. The state of Hessen had the color combination white-red-white-red-white. The two red stripes are narrower, as here. However, the second red ring is missing.
