Austria Leather helmet (˜1880)

0745 Fire helmet from Austria. The helmet was built by Konrad Rosenbauer in Linz around 1880. The helmet is made of leather. There was the same helmet but also made of steel sheet. (See helmet 0495, Austria). The eye and neck brim are made of leather and painted black on the outside. The brim is painted green inside. The two helmet brims are connected laterally. The brim are sewn with the helmet. The seam is covered by a brass panel. The eye and neck brim is also covered with brass. The wide, triangular comb has a large edition. The leather chin strap is attached to two solid brass buttons. At the front is a brass badge mounted from the assortment of Konrad Rosenbauer Linz. It shows an oval sign with the letters "FF" for “Freiwillige Feuerwehr” (volunteer fire brigade). Further, a ladder, rope and crossed axes can be seen.
