Australia Brass helmet (˜1935)
In this collection since: 22.09.2015
0699 Fire helmet from Australia. The brass helmet comes from the MFB. This is the "Metropolitan Fire Brigade" in Melbourne. The brass helmet complies with the brass helmets in Great Britain built by Merryweather in London. Merryweather, a factory for fire extinguishers and equipment, began in 1865 with the first brass helmets built to French pattern. (See helmet 0439, France). The first fire-brigades in England were fire-fighting insurances, which were only used by the members. In 1833 the first, organized fire brigades were set up in England. In London the fire brigade was not founded until 1865. She also had the badge MFB on the helmet, but later changed to "LCC - London City Council". The British fire fighters used this helmet until after 1930. Great Britain also supplied the fire brigades of Australia with the helmets during this time. As a consequence of the 2nd World War, no more helmets were sent to Australia. Australia has therefore produced helmet at the company Rider & Bell (since 1920) in Sydney. The helmets produced in Australia were worn until 1964. At the front is the badge of the MFB. On the rear screen is the embossed badge of the manufacturer "Rider and Bell Ltd. Makers "as well as the head size 5043.
