Spain Leather helmet (˜1930)
In this collection since: 22.09.2015
0697 Fire helmet from Spain. The heavy leather helmet is from Barcelona, Catalonia. These helmets were worn around 1930 when they began to replace the brass helmets, that had been used up to then, by new generations. The leather helmet has a brass comb. The circulating brass shield is missing here. At the front is a fire-fighting sign. It shows a burning tower, two crossed axes and a hose. The comb ends relatively far behind, reaches only slightly over the middle of the helmet. At the front is a chin strap attached which is possibly decoration. It is held on the side by two brass buttons. On them are another fireman's symbol and the lettering "Bombero" to be seen. The actual chin strap is attached to these buttons. Opposite to helmet number 0402 Spain, the head impact plate and the chin strap are missing, the inner helmet is significantly older.
