Djibouti Steel helmet (˜1980)
In this collection since: 21.05.2015
0675 Fire helmet from the Republic of Djibouti. The fire helmet is a French steel helmet. The Adrian M26 helmet is a successor to Helmet M15 (see helmet 149) and predecessor of the M33 (see helmet 38).
While the distinctive detail of the M15 is the circumferential bead, the M26 is recognizable by the four double rivets of the inner helmet fastening. The inner helmet itself is much better built, the helmet bowl higher than the M15. The helmets of the fire brigades were originally painted dark blue (see helmet 149), later chrome-plated. This helmet was painted black with the coat of arms of the Republic of Djibouti. Djibouti is a republic in East Africa between Ethiopia and Somalia. The coat of arms on the front of the helmet shows the eagle of Saladin with the flag of Djibouti on his chest. The eagle of Saladi is very common sign in the Arab world. (See 322 Egypt).
From Wikipedia: In 1896 Djibouti was declared as the French colony “French Somalian coast” with Djibouti as capital. Djibouti became independent of France in 1977.

See helmet 0366 France and cap 0322 Egypt.
