Canada Synthetic helmet (˜1950)
In this collection since: 20.05.2015
0670 Fire helmet from Canada. The manufacturer of the phenolic resin helmet is the company MSA. The helmet type was called "phenolic". It corresponds in construction to the modell "Skullgard" which exist since 1940. Due to a great demand, MSA wanted with the helmet model Phenolic build a helmet, which was able to withstand higher temperatures. These were neither the model Skullgard (helmet 0243, USA) nor the helmet Topgard, built from 1936 (see helmet 0714, USA). MSA built the helmet shell from seven layers of phenolic-reinforced plastic, achieving a heat resistance of up to 230 ° C (450 ° F) without deforming the helmet. With this, he could even stand splashes of molten metal. The helmet type Phenolic was first produced around 1950. The helmet was used by the Canadian fire brigade of the city Moncton on the east coast of Canada (province New Brunswick). At the front is the leather front plate, marked with M.F.D. (Moncton Fire Department). The fire brigade was already founded in 1875. Today, the fire brigade has five stations to be deployed as quickly as possible in all parts of the city. Here is the address of the stations and the date of their opening: 132 McLaughlin Drive (1961), 800 St. George Boulevard (1962), 299 Botsford Street (2009), 72 Brandon Street (1961) and 99 Hildegard Drive (1998). The fire department has 120 firefighters and 40 volunteer firefighters.
