Tunisia Steel helmet (˜1980)
In this collection since: 30.10.2014
0631 Fire helmet from Tunisia. The fire helmet is basically a French fire helmet. The helmet is based on the Adrian M26 army helmet, but was built as a M33 with a new comb for the fire brigade. The helmet was thus used in almost all French fire brigades until the beginning of the 1980s. See helmets 38/385/452.
As a French protectorate between 1883 and 1956 Tunisia was influenced by France. In Tunisia you can also find the French fireman's helmet. However, the helmet does not have the badge in France at the front. The helmet is a special feature because it has no badge on the front. While the manufacturer was required to place holes in the front of the helmet from the manufacturer for mounting the badges, no holes can be seen in the Tunisian helmet. The helmets were ordered from the manufacturer without this hole. Also noticeable is the missing brass braid of the helmet edge. The Tunisian fire brigade is now organized in the ONPC Office National de la Protection Civile.
