Moldova Synthetic helmet (˜1985)

0554 Fire helmet from Chisinau, capital of Moldova. The black helmet was made by Cromwell (Helmets Limited) England as type Firepro 2 in January 1985. In the outward form, the helmet looks like the traditional English fire helmets from cork. However, comb and neck protection are not such pronounced. The helmet is made of fiberglass, coated externally originally orange and green inside. A circumferential edge protection made of rubber protects the sensitive edge. The inner helmet is made of plastic, covered with leather. It is adjustable for head sizes between 53 - 57cm. Attached is the inner helmet from the inside with screws to the helmet bowl. The screws do not go through to the outside. The chin strap of leather is very wide. The belt is closed with Velcro. Between the inner helmet and helmet Bell, a nack protective cloth is attached. Outside of the helmet, there are no metal objects to see. To protect the face, a Plexiglas visor is attached. The holder is located at the sides of the helmet. For this, inside is the helmet is set a nut into the plastic. There, the Visor is fixed with a screw. The helmet was worn in the Fire Station 2 in Chisinau.
In the urban area there are five fire stations. In the fire station 2 are 35 firefighters, 9machinists and 4 Dispatcher in four shifts.
As an independent state, the Republic of Moldova existed since 1991, when the Moldavian Soviet Republic declared itself for independent, during the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Until then, the fire equipment of the Soviet Union was used. In 1991 was the newly developed, Soviet helmet KZ91 (see Helm 556) in use. After the founding of the new state, the former equipment was used. The fire brigade and civil defense, as an organization of the Moldovan state, was still supplied with the necessary materials. On the initiative of firefighter also other fire helmets were given to Moldova from other states. The Fire Station 2 has repainted this helmet and provided with their emblems. The yellow number 2 is located at the front as marking for the station. Under this, the coat of arms of the Moldavian civil defense is mounted. In addition to some labels are on the side of the helmet also 5 yellow stripes attached on each sides. They are the rank marking for the "expert first class" (Plutonians Major). This officer is commander of a fire station with two vehicles. The officers are differented in 4 classes. Expert 3, Expert 2, Expert 1 and Chief.
