Austria Sheetsteel helmet (˜1880)

0495 Fire helmet from Austria. The helmet was built by Konrad Rosenbauer in Linz in 1880. The helmet bowl is made of sheet steel that has been black lacquered. Also, eyes and neck shield are made of sheet steel and painted on the outside black. The eye shield inside is painted green. The two helmet shields are laterally interconnected. The shields are not sewn to the helmet bowl, but folded by a circumferential bead together. Eye and neck shield are provided with a sheet metal enclosure made of nickel silver. Also, the wide, rounded comb was attached underneath. The additional cross braces Wiener form is made of nickel silver (see helmet 492). The leather storm band is attached to two massive lions' heads made of nickel silver. At the front is a brass badge mounted from the range of Konrad Rosenbauer Linz. The helmet emblem with any village name it is called there. The village name “Rohr im Gebirge” refers to a village about 80km south-west of Vienna. It lies in the province of Lower Austria in the land- district of Wiener Neustadt.
