Leather helmet (˜1900)

Fire helmet from Austria. The leather helmet is only partially made of leather. While the helmet bowl is made of leather, eye and neck shield are made of sheet metal and painted black. Both shields are connected laterally to each other. To reinforce the edge, a brass bezel is attached. The shields are sewn on to the helmet bowl. As cover the seam, outside was a red leather strap attached. This band is typical for helmets from Austria. The high brass comb was mounted with cotter pins in the helmet bowl. At the front is a brass badge attached. It is originates from the range of Konrad Rosenbauer, Linz. It could be characterized with the name of a village. However, the signature is missing here. The helmet was worn in the early 1900's. |
