0473 Fire helmet from Basel, Switzerland. A fire helmet in Switzerland has oriented, depending on the position of the region, on the early helmets from France and Germany. Also the helmets from the city of Basel were based until 1880 on France. In the period from 1880 to 1890 then first a brass helmet by German pattern was worn. This helmet already had the distinctive ridge with the Baselstab (sign on the front of the comb), helmet emblem with Baselstab and rosettes on the chin strap. Since 1891, the front badge was enlarged; the lateral rosettes were replaced by hooks. The helmet shown here is from the period around 1891 and was used until the introduction of leather helmets in 1918. Firefighters wearing the helmet without horsehair bush. This was for officers reserved. According to the regulations of the Fire Department, the white plume was reserved for the Chef of the Corps. Mayor had a red, Captains a red-black and Lieutenants a black bush.
