Fire helmet from Monaco. The tiny principality on the Mediterranean Sea, in the southwest of France, has always been oriented to France. So, the Fire Department of the Principality was also always equipped with the equipment of French fire brigades. Manufacturer of the helmet is the French company Petitcollin, Paris. The gray helmet made of glass fiber was manufactured at the beginning of the 1970. It is made with ornate helmet interior from canvas and leather (see helmet 39). It is the successor of the aluminium helmet type Adrian, who come from France also. (See 38/385) Until 1990 the helmet was modified and simplified. (See helmet 432). The most striking feature, in opposite to the newer helmets, are the rivets of the atachement of the inner helmet. They are fixed to the rotating visor and not the helmet bowl. The badge of the fire brigade of Monaco is on the front. It is based heavily on the helmet insignia of the French helmets, but shows a simplified diagram of the coat of arms of Monaco and the words "Deo Juvante" what a means "With God's help". The badge of modern helmets is kept much easier. A special feature of the fire unit of the Principality is to be read in Wikipedia: Monaco's outer defense is largely taken over by France, still the Principality maintains a small military unit, the Corps of Sapeur-Pompiers. The 135 soldiers (10 officers, 26 noncommissioned officers, 99 enlisted) are the third-smallest armed force in the world. They are mainly active as a fire brigade and also responsible for civil defense. |
