Portugal Brass helmet (˜1990)
In this collection since: 09.04.2012
0431 Fire helmet from Portugal. The helmet made of nickel plated brass has its model in the Portuguese brass helmets from 1945 (see Helm 265). This helmet has been built, however, at about 1990. The helmet has inside mounted a new inner helmet and chin strap of leather, on the front is the Great Fire Emblem from Portugal in brass colored plastic. The badge shows a phoenix, two crossed axes and a shield with the letter B and V. This could represent Bombeiros Voluntarios and would mean that the helmet was worn at a volunteer fire department. Units of the fire brigades are also exist next to the Fire Services, for example, in cities like Porto and Viseu. The helmet is used for ceremonial parades or guard services.
