United States Synthetic helmet (˜1962)
In this collection since: 04.01.2012
0403 Fireman's helmet from the United States. The helmet was used on a base of American forces in Germany. Manufacturer of the helmet is the American company MSA, the type of helmet is Topgard. The red polycarbonate helmet was manufactured in 1962. Applicable standard at this time was the ASA Z2.1 of 1959. The very lightweight helmet has a neck protection. It looks like a hood. The entire helmet is lined with it. The helmet interior is fixed at 4 points on the helmet bell. The inner helmet itself is made of nylon webbing. Adjustable head size 63/8 "to 8". A chin strap was not used despite the mounting options are met. Instead, the belt of the neck protection was used. On the helmet, a face shield is mounted. It is slipped onto the front comb and is held back with a metal spring. The principle is the same system at the German DIN14940 fire helmets. On the bow stands: Huntsman Brimaster Model U.S. Patent 3.114.914 and the reference to the standard Z 87.1 of 1979. On the side, two reflective letterings with the word "Firefighter" are attached. At the front there is a fire department badge.
The MSA Topgard helmet was still used for many years in many countries.
See Helmet No.: 220 at 1988, 253 at 1987, 290 at 1988, 326 at 1986.
Maybe the helmet has been used at the U.S. Ramstein Airforcebase, the Headquarters of the United States Air Force in Europe.
