Denmark Synthetic helmet (˜1988)
In this collection since: 07.09.2011
0387 Fire Helmet from Copenhagen, Denmark. The white plastic helmet made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic was used in the Fire Department of the capital Copenhagen. Manufacturer of the helmet, is the company's Viking A / S from Denmark, the model name is called BPU. Also the company MuskOx produced this helmet. Plastic helmets were worn from 1980 in Denmark, the Copenhagen Fire Department introduced the plastic helmets in the mid 1980's. Manufacture date of this helmet is 1988.
In the years from 1960 to mid 1980 were worn in Copenhagen, German helmets with black crest. To difference the private organization Falck (Fire Service) to the local Fire Brigades, it was to distinguish the German Fire Helmets with cross-blade (see Helm 136)at the company Falck and helmets with crest (see Helm 175) of the municipal Fire Brigades. The Muskox helmet was used at the Fire Department of Copenhagen until the year 2003. In the years 2003 to 2006 they used the Scottish Cromwell F600, then the German Dräger HPS6000 (see Helm 270). Because the Copenhagen Fire Brigade with about 600 men is relatively large, the respective conversion lasted several years.
The helmet itself: the helmet is similar in its outward form with the Trelleborg-helmets from Sweden wich exists since 1970 (see Helm120). The massive, high fiberglass helmet has no visor, at the bottom a edge protectors made of plastic. Inside the helmet is covered with a thick, leather-lined Styrofoam. Small leather upholsterys can be installed individually circumferentially with Velcro closures, the top baffle plate is also made of four smaller, leather pillows. The head size is adjustable. The neck protection goes deep into the helmet. It is only attached at two points to the helmet and also secured with Velcro straps. Here also the head baffle plate and the adjustable chin straps are attached to the helmet bell. On a lable inside the helmet, stands the reference to the year 1988. His former owner was Torben Veelsgaard. The rank marking is as follows:
a red stripe = Fire Chief (Brandmester) = group leader
two red stripes = Upper Fire Chief (overbrandmester / vagtmester) = batallion leader
three red stripes = Fire Inspector (brandinspektør / indsatsleder) = captain on duty.
At the front is the emblem of the Copenhagen Fire Brigade and the words Kobenhavens Brandvaesen. (Copenhagen Fire Brigade)
