Dominican Republic Synthetic helmet (˜1991)
In this collection since: 10.11.2009
0335 Firefighter helmet of the firebrigade Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic. The American fire helmet was made on 17.05.1991 by the American firm Cairns & Brothers as model N660 Phoenix. The white plastic helmet has been manufactured according to the U.S. standard NFPA 1972, updated in 1981. The helmet has a neck protection made of Nomex, chin strap and a visor made from aramid polymer. The visor is missing, the fixtures are already in place. The helmet has silver and red reflective stickers according to DOT-C2. DOT stands for Department of Transportation. The stickers were apparently placed by the fire brigade Santo Domingo. In the Dominican Republic does not use uniform clothing and helmets were worn. From city to city, you see different types of helmets from many countries, the same goes for boots and jackets. In 2009 a standardization begins with the helmets, it seems to be changed to the Austrian Helmets from the company Rosenbauer, the type Heros. Firefighters wear helmets in red and yellow. This white helmet was worn in Santo Domingo in the main fire station, the Cuartel General Av. Mella Esq. Palo Hincado, senior officer (for example the Chief of the fire station). Only senior officers wear the white helmet in addition of the red marking.
At the front of the helmet, there is the badge of the Fire Department of Santo Domingo. All the fire departments in the country have this uniform insignia. The only difference is in name of the city, here STO.DGO. for Santo Domingo. Santo Domingo have beside the main fire station 12 other fire stations. Thus, the urban area of about 104 square kilometers and 2 million inhabitants is secured.
