Namibia Synthetic helmet (˜1985)
In this collection since: 23.05.2005
0217 Fire helmet from Namibia. The helmet is from a fire station from the Namibian city of Walvis Bay. The yellow Polycarbonat helmet was produced by the company "Quality Safety" in the capital of Mozambique, Maputo. The note comes over a signpost at the chinstrap, on wich is noted the phone number and the name of the firm. There is the following information about the company Quality Safety: Quality Safety, tel.: (016) 365 -5770, Walkerville, Sasolburg . 321 407 Maputo, Mozambique. The helmet was produced according to the South African guidelines of the "SABS" (South African Bureau of standards) according to the SABS norm 397. The norm of 1983 defines "Safety helmets for industrial use and for firemen". Parts of Namibia were managed by Südaftika for a long time, so it isn't surprising to find this standard in Namibia. The norm is printed on the inside helmet. Further information about the helmet or his manufacturer couldn't be found. The helmet is equipped with an edge protection from rubber circulatingly, the helmet bell inside with a PU foam resoled. The inside helmet is plugged in to mead latches which are on riveted at the helmet bell inside. The inside helmet is adjustable in the size 54 to 60. The chinstrap made of substance and the seal made of synthetic material allow the assumption, that the helmet still isn't very old and, certainly, today, is carried so in this form.
The neck guard cloth, at the helmets with neck guard drawn far to behind rather not usual, is made of a thick material. The cloth is fastened by a Velcro on the helmet bell. The helmet has a plexiglas visor which is held by means of lateral metal fastenings and knurled screws.
A black point on which the "11" flourescently yellowly is written is on the front side of the helmet. Whether the 11 indicates the station number is uncertain and due to the town height of 50000 people rather improbably. The helmet makes all in all a very safe impression. The helmet was enclosed with a badgeof the "Walvis Bay Fire brigade" on wich the motto from the fire brigade stands: „In utrumque paratus“ what means "armed for both" . Alone the badge all in all is designed very interesting.
