Aluminum helmet (˜1950)

Swiss fire helmet of the professional fire department Basel from sheet aluminum. Aluminum was only extremely seldom used and could be found predominant at professional fire departments. The helmet is black on the outside, not painted inside. The helmet form is between 1950 and 1970, Form of the former armed forces helmets with an aluminum comb mounted in addition. The helmet comb was attached at some fire departments as an outer sign for a commanding officer, in some fire departments, the comb could be found at the firefighters also. There wasn't a uniform regulation for this. The inside helmet offers a little more carrying comfort, at the leather elements of the inside helmet are canvas bags tied up with felt filling as an insulation. |
